State railway company MÁV Rt and train manufacturer subsidiary MÁV Vasjárm? Kft have completed the prototype of a new Bzmot train engine, developed by the two companies in a joint project at a cost of Ft 120 million, MÁV said. The engine will be used on the Szombathely?Hegyeshalom line along the Austrian border, starting in February. The new Bzmot model is a Hungarian product of technical parameters similar to the Siemens Desiro train engines, which will be running on the Budapest?Esztergom suburban railway line. As part of an extensive project in which the company will upgrade or replace a large part of its antiquated rolling stock, MÁV is proceeding with procurement tenders with the aim of building a park of 60 modern suburban train engines, a project it expects to be completed by mid-2005.
