New capital channeled into construction industry

The volume of new investment in the national economy increased by 7.8% in 2004, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said in a preliminary report. However, the growth rate of new investment halted in Q4, which saw only 0.3% growth year-on-year even though Ft 1,558 billion of 2004?s Ft 4,076 billion investment total was spent in this period. The annual growth rate of construction industry investment rose 8.8% year-on-year, while 7.1% more new capital was channeled into machinery and production lines. Among the sectors representing the bulk of the national economy, new investment went up in real estate trade and business services (4.9%) and in freight forwarding, logistics, postal and telecom services (1.9%), while the processing industry saw 2.8% less new capital than in 2003.
