Net wages up 12.1% in first five months

Gross wages rose by 11.5% and net wages by 12.1% in the first five months of this year compared to the same period of last year, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported. This resulted from a 7.2% increase in gross wages and 8.6% increase in net wages in the business sector and a 20% increase in gross wages and 19.3% increase in net wages in the public sector. The average gross monthly wage was Ft 157,200 and the average net monthly wage was Ft 102,500 in the first five months of this year. Gross wages averaged Ft 143,000 in the business sector and Ft 191,300 in the public sector, while net wages averaged Ft 95,700 in the business sector and Ft 119,000 in the public sector in January-May this year. The number of employees averaged 2.78 million in January-May this year, unchanged from the same period of last year, the office said. The number of employees increased by 0.4% in the
business sector, but fell by 1.4% in the public sector in the first five months of this year compared to the same period of last year.
