The governing socialist party MSZP has come out ahead of its main opposition rival Fidesz among all surveyed voter groups, think-tank Századvég said on Thursday.
The Tárki poll, done in the first half of October in 60 towns and cities with a sample of 1,035 adults, put Fidesz with 29% support, while MSZP had 32%. Among committed voters, MSZP had 46% as against Fidesz's 43%, according to the poll. In October, 33% of those of voting age favored Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány compared to 32% for ex-premier Viktor Orbán. This is the first time since July 2003 that MSZP has beaten Fidesz in all categories, the survey said.
