MOL wins court case

A court has found Oman's MB Petroleum's Hungarian company MB
Kőolajkutató responsible for an explosion in August of 2000 at a gas
well in southeast Hungary. In an unappeasable decision, the court said
MB Petroleum must pay for half of the Ft 5 billion in damages incurred
by the well's owner, Hungarian oil and gas company MOL Rt. Because of
the size of the award and the financial position of MB Kőolajkutató,
the timing and size of the payments is uncertain, MOL said yesterday.
The court case was initiated by MB Kőolajkutató after the Hungarian
Mining Office found MB Kőolajkutató had not followed regulations when
it carried out an overhaul of the well. MB Kőolajkutató disputed the
office's findings. (MTI; MH 3, Nb 11)
