Min: Overspending on drug subsidies

Hungary will spend as much as Ft 330 billion on subsidizing medicines this year, more than budgeted, as the country remains one of the biggest consumers of pharmaceuticals per capita in Europe. The government had earmarked spending of Ft 284 billion and the shortfall will be shared with drug makers based on a formula introduced in 2004, Health Minister Jeno Rácz said in an interview. Companies including Gedeon Richter Rt and Egis Rt agreed last week to pay Ft 20 billion, Rácz said yesterday. (Bloomberg)
