A solar power plant, the largest facility of its type in Hungary, has started a trial run in Gödöllő, east of Budapest, on Thursday. The plant was deployed on 150 square metres of the roof of a student hostel belonging to Gödöllö's Szent István University, Head of Department István Farkas told MTI. The unit capable of generating 10 kilowatts from silicon semi-conductors will contribute to the hostel's electricity supply, Farkas said. He added that the facility, which required no major maintenance, had a 25-year lifespan. Hungary's target is to increase its energy production from renewable sources to 3.6% by 2010.
