Hungary's central bank governor Zsigmond Járai said yesterday that he hopes the EU will increase its pressure on the Hungarian government to rein in the country's soaring budget deficit. "We hope the EU's pressure will strengthen in the direction of Hungary's budget consolidation," Járai told Dow Jones. "We don't think that this (EU criticism) causes any specific problem now, life goes on," Járai said. European finance ministers Tuesday criticized Hungary for breaking the EU's budget deficit rules, but said they would delay punishment until next year, Dow Jones reported. (Econews; MH 11)
