Italians flock to Hungary

The number of nights spent by Italian tourists in Hungary reached the 600,000 mark last year, state tourism development agency Hungarian Tourism Rt reported, adding that Hungary as a tourist destination has not been so popular with Italians for ten years. Based on hotel nights, Italians rank second among visitors to foreign visitors to Hungary. Their favorite activities include city tours, wine tasting and fine dining, river cruises, and, increasingly, health tourism. According to Hungarian Tourism Rt, the positive impact of Hungary's EU entry was amplified by a recent boom in discount flights to Budapest. Hungarian Tourism also attributes the success to its country marketing campaign in Italy, started three years ago and featuring Italian celebrities.
