Hungary's public health authority is preparing to start human trials of a vaccine against bird flue and plans to have procured the medicine necessary before the end of this year, daily Népszava reported. The medicine is being manufactured by a single company, and though Hungary placed an order for the required amount in January, it can only be shipped at the end of 2005, Public Health Officer László Bujdosó told Népszava. He added that the health authorities were making a continuous effort to prepare for a possible pandemic, with the government providing the necessary funding. Bujdosó warned, however, that the vaccines tested might not be effective, as it is unpredictable what mutation will appear in future in any possible worldwide epidemic.
