Hungary to become regional IT hub

Becoming a regional IT hub is one of the tasks facing Hungary as a member of the EU, the minister of informatics and telecommunications said yesterday. In order to achieve this, a significant amount of public funds must be spent on catching up with the EU15, Kálmán Kovács said at a conference on new business opportunities in telecommunications. Broadband coverage in Hungary is good, but the country is still "critically" behind in terms of the number of internet users, he added. According to ministry figures, 20 % of 14 year-olds have never used a computer and 66 % have never used the internet. (MTI)
