Hungary imposes ban on Romanian meat

Hungary imposed a ban on imports of meat, meat products and live animals from Romania yesterday, in the wake of reports that chickens and ducks in southeast Romania may have tested positive for bird flu, the head of the public health authority said. Miklos Suth said that the relevant authorities in eastern Hungary were notified after reports of initial tests arrived from Romania on Friday. Initial tests have neither verified nor precluded the presence of the virus, but all imports of meat and meat products, live animals and feathers have been banned as testing continues. (MTI)
