Household consumption steadily increasing

Retail sales rose 3.2% in January year-on-year, a growth rate well above comparable EU figures, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported. Compared with the high December base, households consumed significantly less with sales declining 56.2% month-on-month. In the EU, January saw a setback in retail sales compared with the previous months. The year-on-year increase averaged 0.9% in the EU-25, 0.8% in the EU-15, while household consumption in the Euro zone fell an estimated 0.6% on January 2004 according to Eurostat.
