The government plans to introduce a system where health service providers will be able to check whether patients who have a health insurance card -commonly known as "TAJ-kártya"- have really paid their health insurance contribution, health minister Jeno Rácz said. Currently an estimated 300,000 people have got a card without contributing to the National Health Fund and they cost the state Ft 100 billion every year, Rácz said. It is not clear yet, how hospitals could make those who do not have a valid TAJ card, pay for the cost of their treatment. Emergency treatments will remain free of charge for everyone in Hungary.
