Halted Pécs train service gathers speed again

The Budapest-Pécs InterCity fast train service is up and running again,
state railway company MÁV Rt. said in a press release. Cost efficiency
considerations had prompted MÁV to cancel the InterCity service between
Budapest and Pécs at the start of the year due to low passenger counts,
with the exception of Friday and Sunday trains. MÁV's move to restart
the service on a daily basis came after the city of Pécs and Baranya
county agreed to contribute Ft 20 million towards the operation costs
this year. The decision was reached in a meeting of railway and local
government representatives, including Chairman of the Baranya county
assembly Ferenc Kékes, Pécs Mayor László Toller and Zoltán Mándoki, one
of MÁV's CEO's.
