H1 trade deficit comes to Euro 1.206 bln

Hungary's foreign trade deficit was Euro 1.206 billion in the first six months of 2005, down by Euro 1.147 billion from the same period last year, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) announced on Thursday. KSH revised the six-month deficit up by a slight Euro 26 million from a preliminary Euro 1.18 billion shortfall announced on August 9. First-half exports increased 10.2% year on year to Euro 23.423 billion, and imports increased 4.3% from H1 2004 to Euro 24.629 billion, KSH said. Thursday's six-month export figure is down Euro 80 million from a preliminary Euro 23.503 billion, and six-month imports are Euro 53 million lower than the Euro 24.682 billion first estimate published on August 9. In June alone exports rose 6.5% year on year to Euro 4.342 billion and imports increased 2.8% in twelve months to Euro 4.462 billion. The resulting deficit was Euro 119 million in June, Euro 141 million less than in June 2004.
