On Feb. 28, the Competition Office (GVH) launched an investigation against free listings magazine Pesti Est on suspicion of abuse of market dominance and restricting competition, business daily Világgazdaság reported. The GVH action was initiated by Exit and Flyers, two rival publications launched last year. The new market players were unable to establish a presence at strategic points (e.g. multiplex movie theaters in shopping malls or popular fast food restaurants) even after several months of efforts, because the locations they approached were unable to terminate their existing contracts with Pesti Est even though the new competitors offered a better deal. The publishers of Exit and Flyers have therefore sought legal remedy at the Competition Office.
