GVH fines Magyar Telekom Ft 35 mln

Hungary's Competition Office (GVH) has fined Magyar Telekom Rt Ft 35 million for overcharging other telcos to use its network for toll-free and reduced-toll calls, GVH said yesterday. The company said it would appeal the ruling. GVH said that in 2003 Magyar Telekom, then called Matáv Rt, overcharged alternative telcos PanTel Rt and GTS Datanet Rt for so-called "green" and "blue" tariffs. The office ordered the parties to start talks on the financing of interconnect links and come to a mutually acceptable solution beside fining Magyar Telekom. Matav said that the GVH ruling would force the company to transfer more to its partners than costumers actually pay for these services. (Econews; Nv 5, NG 5,  MH 14)
