Gov't, truckers sign accord

Representatives of the government and four truckers' interest groups signed an agreement yesterday in an effort to improve competitiveness for the freight forwarders. Transport ministry second-in-command Tibor Sanyi, who signed for the government, said he hoped this was just the overture to joint efforts to eliminate obstacles to competitiveness. He noted that although it had been a sore point with truckers, the government had been unable to reduce the excise tax on diesel fuel this year, but would soon begin studying ways to cut the tax in 2006.
