Göncz announces further support shake-ups

The government plans to turn its welfare assistance scheme into family aid, the amount of which will depend on the number of dependent children, the welfare minister said yesterday. Kinga Göncz said the change would affect 80,000 families with 200,000 children. Göncz said the average amount of assistance would go up by Ft 15,000/month but gave no concrete amounts. She reiterated the government position that the new system would be fairer, offering more to lower income families and sending the message that all children are equally important. (MTI; NG 2)
