The government will raise natural gas prices 19% for Hungary's businesses from
November 1, government spokesman András Batiz announced on Sunday. The price of gas for households will remain unchanged, he said. Batiz said the decision by Minister of Economic Affairs and Transport János Kóka was made because of rising global oil prices. Batiz added that state-subsidised institutions, such as schools and churches, would not be affected by the price rise, because any difference between the price they currently pay and the new price would be covered by the government's Ft 1 bln energy fund this year.
