Ft 750m recultivation at old factory site

EU Structural Funds will cover 90% of a Ft 750 million project to clean up and recultivate the former site of an alumina factory in northwest Hungary, Lukács Karánsebessy, the mayor of Komárom, near where the site is located, said on Friday. The village of Almásfüzíto, home to the factory, which was shut down in 1997, with the loss of 1,000 jobs, will pay 10% of the cost of recultivation. A museum will be built next to the site to mark the industry's long tradition in the area, and the site itself could be turned into a research center, as proposed in Hungary's second National Development Plan.
