The revenue of booksellers totaled Ft 58.2 billion last year, only 2% more than in 2003, the Association of Hungarian Publishers and Book Retailers (MKKE) said. This marked the end of a seven-year period during which the book market grew at a faster pace than the inflation rate. School textbooks accounted for 26.4% of the total turnover of the sector, non-fiction had a 25.2% market share, while 17.9% of the revenue came from technical and academic publications. According to MKKE President Péter László Zentai, the technical and academic book market was in a difficult position. In other small countries, these are exclusively published in German or in English, he added.
