Ft 3 billion purchase in Debrecen

Debrecen mayor Lajos Kósa and construction company Keviép Kft have recently signed an agreement stating the city would purchase a section of the Kölcsey Center, currently under construction, for Ft 3 billion, to establish an exhibition center. Opposition politicians, though admitting the importance of culture, think it is a waste of money. Originally, the Kölcsey Center was supposed to be a conference center complemented by office buildings, which have not yet been sold. Keviép is taking bank loans to finish construction. Opposition politicians think that the main initiative of the Ft 3 billion purchase is not the promotion of culture but to financially help the construction company. (NV 4) E.C.
