Hungarian embassies in Ulaanbaatar, Lima and Bogota will shut down next year as part of the foreign ministry's efforts to change its network of foreign representative offices, which has been necessary regardless of a planned 10% cut in the ministry's 2006 budget, Foreign Minister Ferenc Somogyi said on Friday. The Hungarian consulates in Ho-Shi Minh City and Montreal will also be closed down, but a new consulate will open in Pristina in Kosovo, as well as in Miercuera Ciuc in Romania, Somogyi said. The consulates in Bonn and Stuttgart will be merged by opening a new office in Dusseldorf and Hungary will operate a joint representative office with Austria in Podgorica in Montenegro, he added. The ministry does not plan lay-offs in connection with the budget cut, Somogyi said.
