First wind farm in Vas county

The first 78 m tower of the wind power plant in Vép, near Szombathely, western Hungary was erected yesterday, and a three-pointed wind rotor of 44m in diameter installed ? national daily Népszabadság reported. The investment has cost Ft 230 million. The 600-kilowatt German Enercon-type generator is planned to produce 1.2 million KWh of electricity annually. With 20% owned by the municipality, the wind plant is the first community-run wind park of its kind in Hungary. The village of Vép will get their public electricity supply free of charge, which could save Ft 5 million?Ft 6 million a year, said mayor Gyula Varga. The next three wind farms will be set up within a couple of years, and 16 more is planned to be built.
