Finance Minister Tibor Draskovics appointed János Szikora to President of the State Tax Office (Apeh) with immediate effect today. Szikora, until now president of the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county unit of Apeh, is expected to collect taxes with more authority and efficiency than his predecessor László György Király did before he resigned from his position on Feb. 16 after a meeting with Draskovics. The nomination of Szikora, who regards himself as a ?manager type? official, raised serious professional doubts about his aptitude, and prompted State Audit Office President Árpád Kovács to question the candidate?s knowledge of macroeconomics.
