Fidesz backs citizenship for ethnic kin

The Fidesz party will always back the endeavors of ethnic Hungarians beyond the border to obtain Hungarian citizenship, Chairman Viktor Orbán said at Cicov on Friday. The leader of the main opposition party was invited to this southwest Slovakian village, inhabited mostly by ethnic Hungarians, to attend the inauguration of a monument dedicated to the 13 Hungarian generals executed after the defeat of the 1848-49 war of independence in Arad, now in SW Romania. Orbán said his party would use all European instruments available to promote the unity and cohesion of the Hungarian nation in areas like human rights, autonomy, reinforcing cultural identity, economic cooperation and dual citizenship.
