Farm prices down 6.2% yr/yr in January-July

Farm producer prices were down 6.2 % in January-July this year compared to the same period a year earlier, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported. This July, agricultural producer prices fell 5.9 % year-on-year. In January-July 2005, the price of crops fell 15.2 % while prices for live animals and animal products were up by 4.3 %. Crop prices decreased 7.8 % year-on-year in July, due to a 26.8 % drop in cereal prices. Prices of live animals and animal products also fell, by 3.9 % year-on-year in July. Farm gate prices fell 5.4 % in 2004 compared to 2003, with crop prices down 13.8 % and animal product prices up 3.9 %.
