Hungary would like to see a milder reform of the sugar industry than the one currently planned by the European Union, a senior official of the Agriculture Ministry told the press on Wednesday. Hungary's interest is to maintain sugar production even after the European Union's sugar industry reform is carried out, László Vajda said. Hungary would be happy with a 25% price reduction for sugar beet instead of the planned 39% and 80% to 100% compensation to farmers instead of the planned 60%, Vajda added.
