Farm gate prices down 3.9% yr/yr in August

A 3.9% fall in farm gate prices caused Hungarian farmers' terms of trade worsen 4.1% in August 2005 from a year earlier, as agricultural input prices were up 0.2% in the period, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported. Crop prices decreased 3.7% yr/yr in August, due to a 21.8% drop in cereal prices. Prices of live animals and animal products also fell, by 4.2% yr/yr in August. In January-August 2005 agricultural producer prices were down 5.5% from the same period a year earlier, as the result of a 13.3% decrease in crop prices and a 3.2% rise in prices for live animals and animal products. Agricultural input prices dropped by 2.2% in January-August 2005 from a year earlier and Hungarian farmers' terms of trade worsened 3.4% in the period, KSH said. Farm gate prices fell 5.4% in 2004 compared to 2003, with crop prices down 13.8% and animal product prices up 3.9%.
