Extraordinary foreign trade deficit in February

According to preliminary figures of the Central Statistics Office (KSH), the Hungarian exports amounted to Ft 1,718 billion, while imports to Ft 1,835 billion in January-February, 2005. Export figures rose by 2%, import figures by 3% int he first two months of this year compared to the same period of last year. The foreign trade deficit reached more than Ft 118 billion, that is Ft 20 billion more than in the same period of last year. KSH estimates that the value of export may have been Ft 869 billion and import Ft 944 billion in February, the deficit thus may have reached Ft 75 billion. 78% of exports and 70% of imports in February were sold and purchased in member states of the European Union.
