The local council of Esztergom has purchased a sixteenth century castle in
Romania for Ft 75 million from an old noble family, business daily Napi Gazdaság reported. The council plans to turn the castle into a cultural centre and use it as a resort. It will replace the council's current resort, which it rents, at Lake Balaton. The council chose Daniel castle, located in Virghis, because of the large number of ethnic Hungarians in the area. The 1,000 sqm castle has been renovated and includes a 200,000 sqm garden.
