Hungary spent Ft 197.9 billion on measures to protect the environment in 2004, 19.6% more than a year before, department head at the Finance Ministry Maria Juhász said on Tuesday. The committee was discussing the bill on the final accounts of last year's central budget. The figure includes spending by the central government and local councils as well as EU subsidies. Last year's expenditures on environmental protection were equivalent to 0.7% of GDP, unchanged from 2003, Juhász said. (Econews)
