Seven out of 11 Hungarian cities qualify for the next round of the Cultural Heritage Ministry bid for the Cultural Capital of Europe, a title that will be held for a year in 2010 by a city in Hungary and another one in Germany. The bids submitted by Eger, Miskolc and Pécs were unequivocally supported by the committee, which consists of seven professionals in the field of public administration and culture. Budapest, Debrecen, Pécs and Sopron also qualified for the second round, while the proposals submitted by Kaposvár, Kecskemét, Székesfehérvár and Veszprém were deemed to be lacking in concept and therefore got knocked out of the contest.
