The first 11 months of 2004 saw dynamic growth in exports and imports, resulting in a Ft 1,023 billion foreign trade deficit, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) reported. The volume of exports and imports rose 17% and 16% yr/yr, respectively. November's export volume was significantly higher than the previous months' figure, and the combined value of exported goods outstripped data from November 2003 by Ft 130 billion with cell phones accounting for 55% of the increase. The export volume of machines and transportation equipment, which accounted for 62% of all exports, rose 23% yr/yr. At 32% and 38%, respectively, consumer electronics and pharmaceutical goods were the fastest growing export category of all products. On the import side, Asian imports rose 60% in the 11 months to November yr/yr as they are now directly imported instead of arriving in the country via other EU countries.
