According to Magyar Hírlap, locals, civil organizations and environmentalists demonstrated against the planned cement factory in the industrial zone of Nyergesújfalú yesterday. The Swiss company is to shut down its obsolete, 138-year old factory at Lábatlan, and build a new one. However, Lajos Szenes, Mayor of nearby village Tát claims that the area is incapable of taking more pollution and that the new Ft 62 billion investment's location is endangering drinking water of the region. Holcim says it welcomes dialogue with locals and supports setting up control groups from among the population to regularly check emission of polluting materials. (MH 12) A.H.
