Cultural capital applicants to spend Ft 30 billion on bid

Hungarian cities planning to submit bids to become the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2010 have budgets averaging at Ft 30 billion, the business daily Világgazdaság reported. Bids must be submitted by August 17, but cities have difficulties preparing their applications as the extent and of form of government participation is still unknown. Of the seven applications (Eger, Miskolc, Sopron, Debrecen, Pécs, Győr and Budapest), that of Eger will be the most expensive, with the estimated cost of the event coming to Ft 76.6 billion including ft 73.1 in developments.
