The Budapest Municipal Court has ruled that a fee charged for the issue of tickets, which Hungarian national airline Malév Rt introduced in February 2004, is illegal and unfair. The decision may be appealed. The case was brought by the National Consumer Protection Union, a not-for-profit organization, which argued that the fee's introduction did not correspond with the introduction of any additional services. Because passengers pay for services related to the ticket, rather than the ticket itself, they should expect more services if they pay more money, the union argued. Malév will appeal the decision, spokeswoman Adrien Krebsz said. Malév charges Ft 1,000 for each ticket passengers purchase online and Ft 5,500 for other tickets. Ticket fees are standard international practice, Krebsz added.
