The Competition Office (GVH) fined the Hungarian Chamber of Medicine stating that the Chamber's code of ethics breaches competition laws. The code of ethics prohibits doctors from advertising their services and also prescribes minimum prices to be charged for various medical services. GVH set the fine at Ft 6,000 per day as long as the ethics code remains in place. István Éger president of the Chamber of Medicine called the decision unfair, as GVH officials are fully aware that the process of changing the ethics code is quite lengthy as only the chamber's full assembly can ratify modifications to the code. The draft modification has been prepared, but the assembly is only scheduled to convene at the end of November, Éger said. (Nb 1) A.K.
