Hungary's cereal harvest dropped 15% to 7.11 million tons from last year's bumper yield of 8.38 million tons, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) said yesterday. The figures, which exclude maize, are preliminary. Cereal crops were planted on 1.708 million hectares in 2004, 3.9% less than in 2003. Farmers harvested 5.079 million tons of wheat, down 15.4% from 2004 on 3.7% less land than in 2004. The average yield was 4.490 tons per hectare, up 16.3% from the 2000-2004 average but 12.3% lower than in the previous year. (MTI; NG 1,3, Nv 5)
