Building industry: growing output

In March 2005 the production of construction increased by 5.3% y/y according to working day adjusted figures. Q1 output rose by 11.7% y/y. Output increased mostly due to growth in the construction of roads and highways. The construction of buildings fell by 4.1% in March and exceeded the level of the previous year merely by 7.9% in the first three months. At the same time, construction of structures other than buildings continued to grow in March, exceeding the level of March 2004 by 21.4%. In Q1, it went up by 18.5% from Q1 2004.
Between January and March, the production of the construction industry decreased in northern and southwestern Hungary, but grew in all other regions. The output of businesses headquartered in central and northeastern Hungary grew at the greatest pace (22.7% and 20.1%, respectively).
In March, prices in the construction industry rose by 4% yr/yr, while in comparison with February they increased by 1%.
