By the end of September Ft 126 billion in local business tax had been paid in Budapest, which is a time-proportionate part of the whole sum planned for the whole year, said Lajos Deli, head of tax section in the Chief Mayor's Office. This is definitely a sign of economic up swing. He also said that 182 of the 212 companies having protested against local business tax paid it. However legal procedures have been launched against 30 remaining businesses who have so far refused to pay the tax. These companies had submitted appeal against local business tax because they think it is not compliant with EU directives. The Budapest Administration Office says the tax has to be paid up until such a time as the law is modified. (Wed-Vg 2) K.H.
