August trade deficit up 48 mln yr/yr

Hungary's foreign trade deficit in August was 386 million, 48 million more than the same month in 2004, according to preliminary figures announced by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on Friday. Exports rose 16.7% year-on-year to 3.784 billion, and August imports increased 16.5% to 4.17 billion. The preliminary deficit in the first eight months stood at 1.881 billion, down 1.06 billion from the same period of 2004. January-August exports increased 10.2% year-on-year to 31.098 billion, while imports increased 5.8% to 32.979 billion, according to the first KSH estimate. The KSH will publish detailed revised foreign trade figures for August and for the first eight months on October 28.
