French hypermarket chain Auchan is turning the area around its store in Dunakeszi, north of Budapest, into a big retail centre, Immochan Magyarország, Auchan's Hungarian property sales unit announced on Thursday. In October, electronics retailer Electro World opened a 3,700 square meter store at the site, and sporting goods seller Decathlon opened a 3,400 square meter store. Next spring, Ablon Buy-Way will open a 20,000 square metre store, which is expected to attract 1 million shoppers a month. By 2006, Auchan expects more than 60,000 square meters of retail space at the site.
Auchan also aims to add a do-it-yourself store to the list of retailers, bringing total investment value there to Ft 20 billion. Auchan opened its 19,600 square meter store in Dunakeszi in 2001.
