András Bozóki named Culture Minister

Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány appointed András Bozóki for Cultural Heritage Minister. A sociologist and political scientist, 46-year-old Bozóki is currently a lecturer at the Central European University (CEU). He graduated from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest and earned a second degree from California University in Los Angeles. One of the founders of liberal weekly Magyar Narancs, he was a member of Fidesz predecessor the Alliance of Young Democrats until 1993, when the party began shifting to the right. Between 1993 and 1994 he was on the informal team of advisors to then-Prime Minister Péter Medgyessy. Bozóki is taking the position over from István Hiller, who has resigned as of Feb. to focus on his responsibilities as President of the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSzP) in the forthcoming election campaign.
