Analysts expect 25bp rate cut

Hungary's central bank (MNB) is expected to lower its base rate by 25 basis points to 6.0% on Monday, a monthly Reuter's poll of analysts showed. In the August poll, 19 out of 22 analysts predicted a quarter percentage point reduction. Two participants saw a 50 basis point reduction and one forecast the MNB Monetary Council would keep interest rates on hold. The consensus for a 25 basis point cut is unchanged from a poll four weeks ago, though on Aug. 22 the Council lowered interest rates by a bigger-than-expected half percentage point.
