Government subsidies for agriculture in Hungary will rise to exceed Ft 400 billion (Euro 1.63 billion) in 2006 from Ft 328 billion this year, Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány said on Saturday. Support per farmer on average will rise to more than Ft 2 million next year as against Ft 1.6 million this year, Gyurcsány said when opening the 74th national agriculture and food exhibition (OMÉK) in Budapest on Saturday. Government spending on agriculture and regional development has risen considerably in the past few years and agriculture will be one of the five to six economic priorities next year, the Prime Minister said.
