The police said they were holding the two men, but did not say if they would be sent to the UK or charged here.
The two men were stopped in Lökösháza, near the Romanian border, on a Hungarian train going to Bucharest on Saturday, according to the police. One of the men produced a UK driverʼs license showing that he was K. Simon Jonathan, a 44-year-old British citizen, while the other only produced a copy of the Quran, but was later identified as B. Trevor, a 40-year-old British citizen, police said.
According to police, both men were taken into custody for expulsion, but yesterday, it was discovered that both men were wanted for leaving the UK without permission. Hungarian police said that both had served prison time after being convicted of financing terrorist acts and that both were released in 2009 and were not allowed to leave the UK without consent of British authorities.
