Embassy: Fence won’t affect function of Serbian border crossing

History

Measures being taken by the Hungarian government to prevent illegal immigration through the country’s border with Serbia will not affect the current border crossing functions, according to a statement from the Hungarian Embassy in Serbia yesterday.

In fact, plans to establish new border crossing are being made, the statement said, adding that any well-meaning citizen of Serbia or any other country who holds valid travel documents and wants to enter the territory of Hungary and respect the relevant laws will not face any obstacles as has been the case until now.

The Embassy stated that Hungary’s measures have no influence on the country’s full support of Serbia’s European integration and that it will inform the Serbian government in detail of the measures during a joint session in Budapest on July 1.

"Both Serbia and Hungary are victims of a geopolitical situation with regard to the issue of illegal migration, which is why a solution must be found through joint efforts," said the embassy.
